On Sunday, the Miami Dolphins earned their 10th win of the year, as they defeated the New York Jets 30-0 to earn their season sweep of their divisional opponent.
In the victory, running back Raheem Mostert cemented himself in Dolphins history, as he broke the franchise’s single-season records for both rushing touchdowns and total touchdowns.
His 17th and 18th rushing scores passed Ricky Williams, who scored 16 times on the ground in 2002, and his 19th and 20th overall touchdowns broke the mark set by Mark Clayton in 1984.
“It feels amazing,” Mostert said after the game. “It’s something that I didn’t necessarily think I would ever do, especially with a guy like Ricky Williams and the rushing touchdowns. I thought the world of him, because me being from Florida, you watch certain players, and he was definitely a player that caught my eye at an early age.
“To be able to break his record and then Mark Clayton’s record, as well, it speaks a lot, especially with this team. But I kind of feel bad, too, because I had like 14 rushes for like however many yards that kind of made me feel like I was doing a terrible job, and I wasn’t running the ball good enough. Yeah, there’s a lot of highs and lows right now for me, but I’m definitely happy.”
The 31-year-old has scored more this season than in his previous eight combined, and this is only the beginning for the veteran. As he’s said, he’s focused on helping his team win and getting to the Hall of Fame some day.
