Raheem Morris has come under a fair amount of criticism for his soft coverages and defensive scheme overall, but there’s no denying the results he’s had with the Rams. And while fans may not love his system, players rave about him as a coach.
The NFLPA revealed rankings of the five best offensive, defensive and special teams coordinators based on player votes, and Morris came in at No. 5 on the defensive side. Players were asked to rate their own coordinators on a scale from 1-10, which is how these rankings were determined, so it’s clear Rams players love having him in their building.
Aaron Glenn of the Lions was rated the best defensive coordinator and top vote-getter overall among all candidates. Steve Wilks (49ers), Dan Quinn (Cowboys) and Brian Flores (Vikings) were the only defensive coordinators rated higher than Morris.
As the hiring cycle approaches, this is interesting: The NFL Players Association asked over 1,700 players to rate the coordinators they play for on a scale of 1-10.

The Rams hired Morris in 2021 after Brandon Staley left to become the Chargers’ head coach. He immediately helped lead the Rams to a Super Bowl win in his first season as the defensive coordinator, working with superstars such as Jalen Ramsey, Aaron Donald and Von Miller.
While he undoubtedly did a great job in 2021, the work he’s done this season with a defense that’s lacking stars has been even more impressive. It could even lead to him becoming a head coach somewhere this offseason.
