Angry Scott Allan says he was robbed and “f****d by the judges” in his WBC International Silver Super Flyweight title fight after they surprisingly voted in favour of Marcel Braithwaite in Liverpool on Saturday.
The Shotts boxer had his opponent down in the fourth round and thought he had done enough to win, only for Braithwaite to win by unanimous decision.
Allan says that was “soul-destroying” but says he won’t give up until he gets a shot at the BBBC British title.
He said: “It definitely was not the right result. I’m the very first person to criticise my own performance if it wasn’t to par, or up to scratch, but that wasn’t the case on Saturday.
“I boxed very well, I was in control the whole fight, I was never under any great pressure that was going to worry me or trouble me, and I knocked him down in the fourth round.
“I was the better all-round boxer, and it’s just a shame the judges thought differently.
“Even his cutman came up to me after the fight and said he thought I won.
“The promoter’s brother said he thought I was definitely robbed.
“It’s soul-destroying. You put in all this work and all this graft, for it to be taken away from you – and it has, it has been stolen from me.
“Everything in training was done in preparation, just to be f****d by the judges.
“Boxing is a horrible sport. It’s a horrible sport that I hate to love. It’s heart-breaking for us boxers, but we just need to dust ourselves down, pick it up and get on with it. That was the wrong decision on Saturday.”
There are echoes of the big super-lightweight fight between Josh Taylor and Jack Catterall on Saturday night at the Hydro, where Catterall looked certain for victory only for the judges to rule in Taylor’s favour.
But Allan says he just has to dust himself down and go back to the drawing board.
He added: “What’s next for me? I want a British title, and I’m out of the races at the moment for it, as you can understand, but who knows?
“I’d love to say I’ll fight for a British title next week, that’s not going to happen, but I want to be back in there as soon as possible.
“My boxing ability was fantastic, it was a very composed performance from me and I felt great, I really felt fantastic.
“But I’ll go back to the drawing board and I won’t stop until I achieve my goals. Nobody is going to determine when I can’t or can’t box anymore, other than me.”
