A MAJOR show from American rockers Rage Against the Machine has been cancelled after “medical guidance” to frontman Zack de la Rocha.
The band were set to perform their first Scottish gig in 14 years, along with Run the Jewels, The Last Internationale and Nova Twins in the first of a series of events for Edinburgh’s Connect festival.
But the 52-year-old frontman suffered a leg injury at a show in Chicago recently – though the band intended to go ahead with a number of planned appearances, including slots at Reading and Leeds festivals.
However on Thursday Rage Against the Machine confirmed that these European dates, including the August 24 Royal Highland Centre headline performance, would be too risky for De la Rocha.
“Rage Against the Machine will be finishing their run at Madison Square Garden on August 11, 12 and 14 and then Zack must return home for rest and rehabilitation. The flights, travel time, and rigorous schedule in the UK and Europe are simply too much of a risk for a complete recovery,” the band said in a statement.
“We are so sorry to all of our fans who have waited years to see us and hope to Rage again soon.”
The band urged ticketholders to contact providers for a refund.
It comes after major Scottish concerts from Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Guns N' Roses were also cancelled this summer.
