Dublin City Council announced a raft of new measures to tackle the filth in the city centre after they were blasted for failing to keep streets and outdoor amenities clean.
There was outrage after weekend revellers left piles of discarded cans, bottles, coffee cups and pizza boxes along the Grand Canal two weeks ago. There were also complaints of grimy grease-stained streets and urine soaked alleyways in the media and from politicians.
Council official John Flanagan told councillors up to 100 staff are cleaning streets 24/7, labour crews and contractors washing streets at nights during the week and weekends as well as three more street washing vehicles coming on stream.
Mr Flanagan said: "What has actually been put in place over the last week and number of days in order to improve the street cleaning services particularly in the city centre. There have been additional resources allocated to the city centre area with up to 100 staff working over three shifts over 24 hours a day - that's throughout the week.

"In addition to that there has been street washing being carried out by up to four direct labour crews at night time. This has also now been supplemented at the weekends by contractors - they have five crews working in the city centre area.
"In addition to that there has been a direct labour crew added between the hours of 6am and 2pm to deep clean the central areas as well on a daily basis. Currently we have between 10 and 11 street washing vehicles in operation and with a further three being commissioned over the next three weeks. One of which is being adapted to deal with larger pedestrian areas which will be in places in between three to four weeks time.
"In addition we are replacing up to 15 compact sweepers within the city centre area."
