Rafael Nadal To Play In Golf Tournaments Following Retirement
Rafael Nadal’s journey in tennis came to an end after Spain were eliminated in the Davis Cup quarter finals but his journey in the world of golf has just started.
After a few days away from tennis, the Spaniard decided to take part in an amateur golf tournament in his home nation.
Nadal played at the Hexagonal Circuit Q-Romia de Son Servera, Mallorca, where he managed to achieve an eighth placed finish – scoring 76 across the tournament.
The tennis icon, who won 22 grand slams during his career, has been heavily interested in golf for several years and impressed in Mallorca – hitting two birdies.
Nadal was a part of a team under the Rafael Nadal Academy and managed to help his side finish fourth overall at the competition.
After calling it quits in the sport of tennis, the Spaniard is set to compete in two golf tournaments that are coming up – showing interest in the LIV Golf Valderrama and the Acciona Open in Madrid.
His capability in the sport of golf is extremely high for someone who has not played professionally, peaking at a handicap of -1.0 which is better than a lot of tour golfers.
Interestingly, Nadal played in golf tournament during 2012 but prior to his recent tournament, had not been consistent at golf tournaments
However, in 2020 the Spanish star played in the Balearic Golf Championship and impressed by finishing sixth against long-time professionals.
Nadal’s family have found huge success in several sports, with his uncle Miguel Angel Nadal playing football at the highest level for Barcelona and Mallorca.
His other uncle, Toni Nadal, was also successful in tennis, coaching Rafael Nadal through his stunning career across two decades.
