Radio France staff began a two-day strike on Sunday over France Inter’s decision to hire a senior editor from the right-wing magazine Valeurs actuelles as a political commentator. Charles Sapin’s appointment has drawn criticism because the magazine has previously been convicted of racist public insult and incitement to racial hatred.
Trade unions at the public broadcaster accuse Sapin of espousing far-right ideas and are demanding that his weekly column be removed from the station’s schedule.
