Rachel Zegler stars in the upcoming Netflix and Skydance Animation feature, Spellbound, where she voices the character Ellian. The film follows Ellian, the daughter of the king and queen of Lumbria, as she embarks on a mission to save her family and kingdom after a mysterious spell transforms her parents into monsters.
Originally set up at Apple, Spellbound made its way to Netflix when Skydance Animation partnered with the streaming giant. The star-studded cast includes John Lithgow, Jenifer Lewis, Nathan Lane, and Tituss Burgess, alongside Zegler. Vicky Jenson, known for her work on Shrek, directs the project, with a script penned by Lauren Hynek & Elizabeth Martin and Julia Miranda.
The trailer for Spellbound highlights the involvement of Skydance Animation's John Lasseter, known for his work on Pixar hits like Toy Story and Cars. Lasseter, who joined Skydance following his tenure at Pixar, serves as a producer on the film, alongside Skydance head David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Bruce Anderson.
Adding to the film's allure is the musical talent behind it, with a score by Alan Menken and songs co-written by Menken and Glenn Slater. Spellbound is set to premiere on November 22, following in the footsteps of Skydance Animation's previous feature, Luck. The studio has other projects in the pipeline, including Pookoo and Ray Gunn.
