Rachel Weisz has revealed how she has managed to keep her family life with husband Daniel Craig out of the public eye.
The British star, 53, lives in New York with Craig and their children but despite their collective stardom, they have remained largely out of the spotlight unless they are promoting their acting work.
In a new interview, Weisz insisted she never sees herself as a “celebrity” and credited the family unit she and Craig have established for helping maintain their privacy through the years.
She told The Observer: “Celebrity – it really doesn’t mean anything to me.
“And it’s no work at all to keep not showing up at events. It’s no work at all, to keep a private life. Life can be demanding; life in a family can be complicated but I don’t even know what ‘celebrity’ means. I don’t think of myself like that.”
While she recognises the “tremendous privilege that comes with” her career, the movie star insisted that fame doesn’t dominate her life.
She continued: “I’m used to it now. Like, if someone recognises my husband, it’s just part of life – they’re normally really nice and go, ‘Best Bond ever!’ or whatever. It’s not in a place where it’s difficult, or oppressive.”
The Oscar winner has been married to the James Bond star since 2011 and they welcomed their first child together, a daughter, in 2018.
Weisz has a teenage son with director Darren Aronofsky, while Craig has an adult daughter, Ella, from a previous relationship.
Later in the interview, she was asked about her experience having a child at age 48 and the criticism she faced for being an older mother.
In response, Weisz admitted she didn’t take notice of it, sharing: “Perhaps it’s just that we were very, very tired. Maybe I didn’t notice what was going on. You go into a bubble when you have a newborn, don’t you?”
