RACHEL Reeves is set to address Labour Party conference on Monday as she looks to persuade critics there will be no return to austerity under Labour.
However, she is facing a backlash from Labour’s union backers over her decision to strip the Winter Fuel Payment from millions of pensioners.
Senior Labour figures are also facing questions about “freebies” of clothing, holidays, concert tickets and football matches.
Here’s all you need to know about the speech.
When will Rachel Reeves be speaking?
The Chancellor is due to give her speech to conference around 12pm.
With her first Budget to come on October 30, Reeves said her plan will “be about protecting living standards, fixing the NHS, and then, crucially, about rebuilding Britain”.
How can I watch Reeves’s speech?
The Labour Party’s YouTube channel is livestreaming the conference, which offers one way to watch the speech when it comes.
There is also the possibility that major broadcasters, including the BBC and Sky News, will also show the speech.
What has been said ahead of the speech?
Reeves has been urged to “put down the axe” and invest in the economy to deliver growth ahead of her speech.
The SNP’s Westminster leader Stephen Flynn (above) meanwhile accused her of “repeating the Tories’ mistakes” by imposing “damaging austerity cuts”.
Flynn urged Reeves to reverse cuts to the Winter Fuel Payment to pensioners which are being withdrawn from millions not in receipt of benefits.
