Rabbi Matondo has been left out of Schalke's pre-season trip to Austria with the Bundesliga side revealing he is locked in transfer talks.
The 21-year-old made the move to Germany in 2019 as part of a deal worth £11million but he now looks set to depart permanently after three years for a new challenge in Glasgow with Rangers. Matonda came through the ranks at Cardiff City and then Manchester City before making his move to the Bundesliga outfit. During his stint in Germany he enjoyed two loan spells with Stoke City and Cercle Brugge.
His stint in Belgium proved to be very successful with the winger scoring 10 goals and providing two assists in 27 appearances in all competitions. Giovanni van Bronckhorst has been vocal over his transfer plans this summer after expressing a desire to add at least two more faces to his squad and it appears a move for the Wales star has moved that bit closer. Writing on social media ahead of their pre season trip, the German side said: "Off to Austria. Everyone travelling tested negative before setting off.

"Three people haven't made the trip: Florian Flick (Corona), Beniamino Molinari (Corona), Rabbi Matondo (transfer talks).
Should Matondo pitch up at Ibrox he would become Rangers' fourth summer recruit.
John Souttar arrived after penning a pre-contract agreement from Hearts earlier this year. Antonio Colak joined from PAOK in a near £2million transfer last week and was joined by free agent Tom Lawrence.
Rangers are set for a big season as they bid to recapture the Premiership crown from Celtic and reach the Champions League group stages. They have two qualifying rounds to negotiate to mix it with Europe's big boys with the new domestic season starting at the end of the month.
