Sigmund Freud was an Austrian neurologist who lived from 1856 to 1939. He is best known as the founding father of psychoanalysis, a clinical method for treating mental health conditions through dialogue between a patient and a psychoanalyst. Freud revolutionized how humanity views the mind by suggesting that much of human behavior is driven by thoughts, desires, and memories locked away in the unconscious mind. Before Freud, mental health was largely viewed through biological or religious lenses. Freud introduced the idea that our internal conflicts, hidden desires, and childhood experiences heavily shape who we are as adults.
