A person can do something terrible in the morning, sit down for lunch a few hours later and carry on with the rest of the day. They can talk to friends, watch a film, laugh at a joke and sleep at night. The disturbing part is not only what they did, but also how easily they compartmentalize things and get back to normal life.
That raises a difficult question: Does committing an act of violence necessarily destroy the person who commits it?
