Amol Rajan confirmed he would be replacing Jeremy Paxman as University Challenge host on Thursday in a sentimental post on Instagram.

The broadcaster said he was “extremely humbled and excited”, and “this is a proper dream come true”.

Paxman will film his last episode of the show in autumn this year, with his final series airing on BBC Two from August this year into summer 2023. He revealed in May 2021 that he had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.

Yes you heard that correctly – Japan’s national tax agency has launched a ‘Sake Viva!’ contest to come up with ideas to promote drinking among the younger generation.

This comes among concerns that young people in the country are drinking considerably less than their parents, causing a potential loss of tax receipts.

Japan’s health ministry had said it hoped the campaign will also remind people to drink only the “appropriate amount of alcohol”.

Other social media users found the announcement hilarious, as well as sharing that they’d also come across the driver in the past.

One said: “I actually love this driver! I’ve heard him a couple of times on the Victoria line. Brightened my day up immensely! Not sure he’s going to win a singing contest any time soon though...”
