Quick-thinking East Lothian schoolboys praised for saving pal after freak fall

A group of schoolboys in East Lothian have been praised after springing to action when a friend took a fall in the playground - causing a shock seizure that left him in hospital.

Concerned mum Ann Hay, 49, rushed to a park near her 13-year-old son's school to find him conscious on the floor with paramedics after falling off a flying fox, hitting his head and having a seizure - despite never having one before.

Aaron Marley-Hay was playing in Lewisvale Park at lunchtime with school pals when he came shooting off the flying fox and onto tarmac banging his head.

The smart lads reacted quickly when Aaron started "shaking" as one rushed to grab a teacher from their nearby school and another phoned an ambulance.

Mum Ann can't thank the boys enough for their quick reaction and can't bear to think what could have happened if they didn't intervene.

Speaking to Edinburgh Live, Ann said: "Aaron was out at lunchtime with his friends, someone had pushed him on the flying fox and pushed him really fast so he came flying off.

"One of his friends said when he hit the floor he had been shaking so one ran into the school to get a teacher and one called an ambulance.

"They deserve a medal for being so brave and quick thinking when they are so young in a scary situation."

She continued: "I got there and the ambulance was already there. Aaron was disoriented but knew I was there with him. They took him to the Sick Kids and gave him a CT scan.

"He wanted to go home, but me and the doctor agreed he should be kept in overnight just in case. He had never had a seizure before and they don't know why it happened.

"All of the scans came back clear but he was really unsteady after the incident but he got to come home at 2pm today."

She added: "They are all in S1 at Musselburgh Grammar. He has amazing friends - I really can't thank them enough. He seems to be okay now and has been sleeping a lot.

"It's just good to get him home again."
