Queensland police operation shuts down drug and gun trafficking linked to organised crime, nine men facing 75 charges

Police raid a property and seize a stash of weapons.

Nine men are facing a string of drug and gun trafficking charges after a major police operation in south-east Queensland.

The men, aged between 21 and 32, have been charged with 75 serious drug and firearms trafficking charges.

Detective Inspector Brad Phelps from the Queensland police drug and serious crime group said 18 weapons had been seized, including seven semi-automatic firearms and three pistols.

He alleged the charges related to "quite a young demographic involved in very serious weapons trafficking offences".

Inspector Phelps said police would allege they were involved with an operation that had links to organised crime groups, including outlaw motorcycle gangs.

"These aren't weapons that are collected by weapon enthusiasts, these are for use by criminals and organised crime groups," he said.

Police said the four-month operation also resulted in the seizure of a significant quantity of methamphetamine, MDMA and cocaine.

'They are very significant weapons'

Investigators from crime and intelligence command's state drug squad carried out raids in Moreton Bay, Brisbane and the northern Gold Coast between last Friday and Monday.

They targeted properties in Kallangur, Laceys Creek, Ferny Grove, Pimpama, Stafford Heights, Samsonvale, Woolloongabba and Shailer Park.

"Weapons trafficking, particularly category H weapons which some of these weapons are, involves mandatory sentences of up to five years for trafficking in those weapons, so they are very significant weapons," Inspector Phelps said.

"The removal of weapons of this nature from circulation within the community and the hands of organised crime will enhance the safety of all Queenslanders."

Police said several men had already been to court and granted bail, while others had been remanded in custody.
