A man who was struck by lightning on a golf course north of Brisbane has died after an almost three-week fight for life in hospital.
In a statement, Dirk Kotze's family said he died on Thursday from injuries related to the lightning strike.
"The trauma sustained by both the lightning strike and subsequent cardiac arrest was too significant for his body to recover [from]," the statement read.
The 56-year-old Moreton Bay man was struck at Wantima Golf Course in Brendale on March 12, when a severe storm broke out over parts of Queensland's south-east.
He was resuscitated by his playing partner, who provided CPR on the course while waiting for paramedics to arrive on scene.
He was taken to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital.
Mr Kotze's family thanked medical professionals "who worked tirelessly to save his life".
"Dirk was a man who was known for having a larger-than-life personality," the statement said.
"His faith in God, love for people and for being the epitome of a 'shirt off the back' kind of man defined him — there was no-one in need he wouldn't put his own life on hold to help out."
