The Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations have officially started, beginning on Thursday June 2 and lasting until Sunday June 5.

Thousands of special get-togethers have already been registered on the occasion's official website. You can find your nearest event by using its location tool here.

The Queen's actual accession to the throne occurred on February 6 1952, so she has already officially become the first monarch to celebrate 70 years on the throne.

Covering June 2-4, pub goers will be able to enjoy two extra hours of fun at their local. On Monday 25 April, Parliament passed an order to extend licensing hours in pubs, clubs and bars across England and Wales from 11pm to 1am to mark the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

Supermarket opening times during the Jubilee bank holiday

Major supermarkets will not be totally closed during the weekend, with most only slightly reducing hours to their normal bank holiday times.

For example, most Tesco Superstores will be open from 6am to 10pm on Saturday, June 4, and 10am to 4pm on Sunday, June 5.

Aldi and Morrisons have confirmed that their stores will operate their normal opening hours throughout the long weekend.

Sainsbury's will be operating slightly reduced hours of 7am to 9pm.

To find the exact opening hours for your local supermarket, you can use their branch locator webpages.

Some DIY stores will also have different opening time over the bank holiday too.

Public transport during the Queen's Jubilee

Currently, a strike is planned during the Jubilee weekend at two central London Tube stations. Euston Park and Green Park will see see staff walk out on June 3.

RMT general secretary Mick Lynch said: “Our strike on June 3 will cause significant disruption to people wishing to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee.

“However, if Tube bosses do the right thing, and deal appropriately with the manager in question, we can find a just resolution to this dispute.”

There are no other major disruptions to public transport expected over the four-day weekend.

Transport for London has said that most of its services will run as planned but travellers should be aware of increased passenger numbers, which could cause delays.

It's also worth remembering that a 24-hour walkout will take place after the bank holiday weekend across the London Underground.

About 4,000 station staff are set to walk out at 12.01am BST on June 6 in a dispute over job losses and pensions.

Keep in mind that roads will be busy, especially as large crowds are expected in London on Saturday June 4. National Rail says it will be especially busy after 10.30pm when people head home.
