IN the year of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations, there was another timely success for Her Majesty when King’s Lynn captured the Cazoo Temple Stakes at Haydock on Saturday.
King’s Lynn, the Queen’s third winner of the week, will now head to Royal Ascot next month where he is expected to line up for the King’s Stand Stakes.
Jake Warren, representing the owner and winning trainer Andrew Balding, said: “He’s in great shape and handled it really well, so it’s an amazing result for Her Majesty.
“As you know all roads lead to Ascot at this time of year and he’s hit the line very strongly there. He’s effective over both five and six furlongs.
“I’m not part of the decision-making team but I’m sure dad (John Warren, the Queen’s racing manager), Andrew and Her Majesty will have a re-group and make the appropriate plan.
“It’s wonderful to have a result like this for her and it’s the beginning of an exciting year.”
Winning jockey David Probert was completing a 209-1 treble after his success with Valley Forge and Whoputfiftyinyou.
Winter Power, sent off the uneasy 7-2 favourite, finished a disappointing eighth of the 10 runners.
Trainer Tim Easterby said: “She slipped a little bit coming out of the stalls, but David (Allan, her jockey) was quite happy with her and she travelled well, and he said he just thought she might’ve needed this to put her right.”
The Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot is now on the cards for El Caballo after he made six wins on the bounce when taking the Cazoo Sandy Lane Stakes for trainer Karl Burke and jockey Clifford Lee.
At Auteuil, Willie Mullins was denied a sixth victory in the French Champion Hurdle when Klassical Dream finished second behind Hermes Baie.
