Queen of the South forward hopes to put injury hell behind him

Fan favourite Lee Connelly is hoping to put his injury hell behind him next season.

The 23-year-old became the latest player to sign on for the upcoming campaign as Marvin Bartley continues to put his stamp on his side.

Lee said: “It’s good to be back.

“Last season was frustrating for everyone but especially for me as I was hampered by injury and didn’t get to play as much as I wanted.

“We were gutted to miss out on the play-offs but that has given us even more determination for the season ahead.

“Hopefully, I can play a bigger part in the team this year and help us to success.”

Connelly won the goal of the season award for his sensational strike at Ibrox in the League Cup.

Marvin Bartley said: “Lee has shown a massive determination to stay here and contribute to the club next
season.

“We’ve had many a FaceTime call in the off-season about football and life and I think the penny has finally dropped.

“He’s stuck to his off season fitness plan and is in really good shape, he knows that cutting corners won’t produce the best version of himself.

“A fit Lee Connelly is an asset to anyone and I can’t wait to work with him again next season.”

Former Falkirk midfielder Craig McGuffie also signed up at the end of last week.

The 25-year-old said: “I’m pleased to get this done. Queens were strong at the end of last season, and I think we will be stronger this time.

“The manager is starting to build a good young squad and I aim to add a bit of experience to the side. League One is a tough division, but I believe we can mount a decent challenge.”

Bartley said: “A lot of the boys are young, so we needed someone with a bit of experience and despite only being 25 he has that.

“Craig knows the division and can help with his knowledge. He is a player who can create something out of nothing and strengthens us in attacking areas.

“He displayed all the professional attributes I want off the pitch in our meeting and I know he will lead by example. I can’t wait to see him in full flow next season.”
