Queen helped design State Hearse so Brits could have clear view of her on final journey

The State Hearse that will transport the Queen's coffin on her final journey was designed with the help of Her Majesty so that the public could have a "clear view" of the coffin inside the vehicle.

The Queen sadly passed away on Thursday at the age of 96 at Balmoral castle in Scotland, and her coffin was today flown from Edinburgh to London, where it will now be driven to Buckingham Palace.

The Royal Household collaborated with Jaguar Land Rover on the State Hearse - which will also be used on the day of the Queen's funeral on Monday, September 19 - and it has been claimed that the monarch herself was consulted on the plans.

The State Hearse is finished in Royal Claret, the same colour as the official Royal and State vehicles kept in the Royal Mews at Buckingham Palace, which are used by members of the Royal Family during official duties.

Her Majesty's personal Royal Cypher is also featured on the vehicle, and it has been reported that the State Hearse was specifically designed so that members of the public would have a "clear view" of Her Majesty's coffin as it travels through London and Westminster on the day of her funeral.

The Queen's journey to London comes after her coffin was moved out of St Giles' Cathedral in Edinburgh on Tuesday afternoon in preparation for being flown to the UK capital.

Her daughter, Princess Anne, accompanied the coffin on its move, and as we recently reported, she wore a sentimental pair of earrings to mark the occasion - as they were a gift from her parents and she had previously worn them on her wedding day in 1992, and to her father Prince Philip's funeral in 2021.

The Princess Royal also released a moving statement while travelling with her mother's coffin.

She said: "I was fortunate to share the last 24 hours of my dearest Mother's life. It has been an honour and a privilege to accompany her on her final journeys.

"Witnessing the love and respect shown by so many on these journeys has been both humbling and uplifting. We will all share unique memories. I offer my thanks to each and every one who shares our sense of loss. We may have been reminded how much of her presence and contribution to our national identity we took for granted.

"I am also so grateful for the support and understanding offered to my dear brother Charles as he accepts the added responsibilities of The Monarch.

"To my mother, The Queen, thank you."
