timeBritain's longest-regining monarch Queen Elizabeth II wrote a secret letter in November 1986, which is addressed to the people of Sydney. The secret letter is now hidden in a vault in the Queen Victoria Building in Sydney, Australia which cannot be opened for the next 63 years until 2085!
As per a 7NEWS Australia report, not even the Queen's personal staff knows what's the content of her secret letter which is kept inside a glass case in a restricted area. The Queen wrote the letter to celebrate the restoration of the Queen Victoria building, which was built in 1898 in honour and celebration of Queen Victoria's the Diamond Jubilee. It is noted that Queen Victoria was Queen Elizabeth II’s great-grandmother.
Addressing the Lord Mayor of Sydney, the Queen had instructed him about opening the letter in the year 2085. Her instructions read: “On a suitable day to be selected by you in the year 2085 AD, would you please open this envelope and convey to the citizens of Sydney my message to them.”
Apart from the UK, Elizabeth II was also the Queen of Canada, Australia and New Zealand among other Commonwealth realms.
After the Queen's death on September 8, 2022 at the age of 96, her son and heir to the throne Charles III is the new King.
