Burnt from recent experiences, Isaac Quaynor is plotting the ultimate revenge on Brisbane Lions livewire Charlie Cameron in the AFL grand final.
Cameron has got hold of the Collingwood defender twice this season, kicking 10 goals across a pair of Lions victories, and looms as a potential game-breaker at the MCG on Saturday.
"We don't really have the answer yet, do we?" Quaynor told reporters on Friday when asked how the Magpies plan to stop the All Australian goalsneak.
"What we've done the first two times, which hasn't worked, is that I've had a bit more of a direct match-up on him.
"Although it hurts my ego, he's got me good a couple of times.
"Just making sure that we play our system, I think that will work itself out."
Those ego-hits provide Quaynor with "big time" fuel for the most important battle of all.
The 23-year-old likened it to his contests with GWS superstar Toby Greene, who once had a day out on an inexperienced Quaynor.
The athletic Magpie has since developed into one of the game's best defenders.
"It's like the Toby Greene conversation; people don't stop talking about that even though it was three-and-a-half years ago," Quaynor said.
"People have good memories and like to bring that sort of stuff up but this (blunting Cameron) would be the best way of shutting all that down."
Cameron has kicked 56 goals this season, just one short of his career-best tally (2019) and second at the Lions behind Joe Daniher (58).
But he's had a relatively quiet finals series, kicking 2.1 against Port Adelaide and 1.3 against Carlton.
"I know I'll be having a tough battle with either Quaynor or (Brayden) Maynard but whoever I get I'll be backing myself in," Cameron said.
"I've had a quiet finals series this year but hopefully ... I can try to bring my best."
Saturday will be Cameron's second career grand final after he played in Adelaide's loss to Richmond in the 2017 decider.
"I was in my fourth year at the time and I just have a lot of confidence now compared to (then)," he said.
"Now I'm in my 10th year so I understand what it takes to get myself up for big games."
