QPR are hosting a swab station at Loftus Road on Saturday ahead of their match with Rotherham as they try to help find a bone marrow transplant for a close family friend of defender Jimmy Dunne.

Dunne’s family friend is Daniel Greer, who at the age of just 14 was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia in June. He began chemotherapy back back then but, after 25 doses of three drugs given over a 10-day period, he was told he needs a bone marrow transplant.

Dunne is now trying to help Daniel and he is asking supporters to visit the swab centre before tomorrow’s game to see if they are a match and can save the 14-year-old’s life.

DKMS, a blood cancer charity, will be setting up the swab station tomorrow in the Academia Fan Zone at PlayFootball on South Africa Road. The simple procedure takes five minutes – and could give Daniel and his family the breakthrough they are desperately seeking.

QPR defender Dunne said: “Since I have been with QPR, I have seen first-hand how incredibly supportive the fans are, not only of the team but also each other. I would be incredibly grateful for any help we can give to Daniel.”

Daniel’s mum, Anne, said: “You could be the only person who can save another person’s life. That person and their family will be waiting and praying for a matching donor.”

The QPR squad will also warm up in t-shirts tomorrow showing their support for the #DoItForDaniel campaign.
