QPR close in on appointing Michael Beale despite Aston Villa attempts at keeping Steven Gerrard’s assistant

QPR are closing in on appointing Michael Beale, Steven Gerrard’s assistant at Aston Villa, as their new head coach.

The Championship club have been on the hunt for a new boss after parting ways with Mark Warburton at the end of the season.

After holding talks with candidates, Beale has now emerged as the frontrunner and QPR are closing in on appointing him.

Beale has earned a reputation as an excellent coach, working with Gerrard at Rangers and then following him to Aston Villa.

Gerrard was keen to keep Beale at Villa Park, but couldn’t stand in his way of becoming a head coach elsewhere.

QPR have been looking to appoint a young, hungry coach who specialises in working on the training pitch with players.

MK Dons’ Liam Manning was one of those under considerations, with Rob Edwards, who has taken over at Watford after leaving Forest Green Rovers, also admired.

Beale, however, has now leapt to the front of the queue and is ready to take his first steps in management.
