A man serving a life sentence in Queensland has been granted a transfer to custody in NSW, where he will be arrested over an alleged murder if he is ever released.
Vladimir Garcia faced Brisbane Magistrates Court on Tuesday for an interstate prisoner transfer application.
A NSW Police spokesperson said the transfer application was made at Garcia's request and he was subject to an arrest warrant over the death of a Victorian man.
"State Crime Command's Homicide Squad have an existing warrant for the arrest of a 45-year-old man, wanted over the alleged murder of Anthony John Ward in May 2009 under Strike Force Sallee," the spokesperson said.
Mr Ward's remains were found in a fire pit at a campsite near Tenterfield in NSW about two months after a double murder in Queensland that ultimately led to Garcia being imprisoned for at least 25 years.
Mr Ward went missing from Camperdown, in western Victoria, earlier in 2009 and his body was identified via DNA testing.
Garcia was jailed for life in March 2013 for the murders of Gold Coast security company owners Alexander "Sandie" Davie and his wife Suzanne in 2009.
Garcia and his co-offender Cameron Stewart worked as security guards for Mr Davie until April 2006 when he accused them of stealing handguns from the security company.
The couple were stabbed to death in two different Gold Coast locations within two hours of each other, with the word "dog" written in Mr Davie's blood.
Garcia represented himself in court on Tuesday for the prisoner transfer application and was kept in custody in the dock.
The reason behind why Garcia requested a prisoner transfer to NSW was not stated in court.
A lawyer for the Queensland attorney-general said Garcia had an "outstanding serious offence in NSW".
Magistrate Anthony Gett told Garcia an arrest warrant had been issued for him on July 29, 2011 in NSW for murder.
"Are you opposing the application to transfer you to NSW? You can oppose it if you can persuade me it's harsh, oppressive or not in the interests of justice," Mr Gett said.
Garcia confirmed he would not oppose the application and said "no" when asked if he wanted to say anything further.
Mr Gett said the attorneys-general of NSW and Queensland had consented to the prisoner transfer.
Mr Gett approved the application and Garcia was taken from the courtroom in the custody of Queensland Corrective Services.
A NSW Police spokesperson said Garcia was moved to a correctional centre in NSW later on Tuesday.
"The Prisoner Transfer Scheme is not governed by the NSW Police Force," the spokesperson said.
Garcia is not likely to be charged over Mr Ward's alleged murder unless and until he is released on parole, which will not be granted for at least another 14 years.
