QB C.J. Stroud opens OTAs at No. 2 quarterback

The Houston Texans opened up OTAs this week and No. 2 overall pick, quarterback C.J. Stroud is not working at the team’s first-team. According to multiple reports, Davis Mills took the first-team reps and Stroud worked with the second team.

Houston drafted Stroud out of Ohio State with the goal of him being the quarterback to replace Deshaun Watson and lead the Texans into the playoffs. But for now, it’s Mills, who went 3-10-1 as a starter last season.

But Stroud is taking the competition in stride and sounds confident that when everything plays out, he will be the starter.

“This team has been very accepting of me, very honest, and very transparent,” Stroud said. “What I love about it, man, nothing has been given to me. I have to earn everything, which I love. It’s been like that my whole career, so it’s nothing new.

“For me, I’m trying to get better,” Stroud said. “It’s not about being with the ones, being with the twos, just getting better. That’s what spring is for. Getting the timing down. Learning my receivers.

Stroud is raw but incredibly talented. He threw for 8,123 yards in two seasons and scored 85 touchdowns.
