Qatar vs Ecuador prediction and odds as the 2022 FIFA World Cup kicks off

The 2022 FIFA World Cup kicks off in Al Khor this afternoon with hosts Qatar looking to make their mark on the international stage as they face South America's Ecuador at the Al Bayt Stadium. The 60,000 stadium will host the opening match as well as eight other matches including England's group stage match against USA.

The hosts are priced at 13/5 to win their first ever World Cup group stage match while Ecuador are the favourites with Betfred at 5/4 and a draw is 21/10. The two sides have met three times previously with all taking place in Qatar with an even head-to-head record and six goals each. Their last encounter was a 4-3 friendly win to the hosts back in October 2018.

Premier League fans will notice a few familiar faces in Ecuador's squad this summer including former West Ham United striker Enner Valencia who looks set to lead the line up after a strong start this season for Fenerbahce with 13 goals in 12 league appearance. He will join the likes of Brighton & Hove Albion trio Pervis Estupinan, Moises Caicedo and Jeremy Sarmiento.

Tips
