PV Sindhu, HS Prannoy advance in Singapore Open

PV Sindhu, HS Prannoy and the women's duo of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand made it to the second round of the Singapore Open BWF Super-750 tournament on Wednesday.

Lakshya Sen, Kidambi Srikanth, Simran Singhi-Ritika Thaker, Sathish Kumar-Aadya Variyath, Krishna Prasad-Sai Pratheek, Sumeeth Reddy-Sikki Reddy and Venkat Gaurav-Juhi Dewangan lost their first-round matches.

Lakshya went down fighting against Viktor Axelsen of Denmark 13-21, 21-16, 13-21. Srikanth retired against Kodai Naraoka of Japan 14-21, 3-11. World No. 10 Prannoy struggled past world No. 45 Julien Carraggi of Belgium 21-9, 18-21, 21-9.

Prannoy will face world No. 11 Kenta Nishimoto of Japan next. Nishimoto enjoys a 3-2 win-loss record against Prannoy.

Sindhu beat Line Hojmark Kjaersfeldt of Denmark 21-12, 22-20 to set up a second-round clash with third seed Carolina Marin of Spain. Marin defeated Goh Jin Wei of Malaysia 22-20, 21-18.
