Puzzled dogs play whack-a-mole with sausages and get confused when they disappear

A group of rescue dogs have been captured on camera playing whack-a-mole with sausages - and their puzzled reactions are brilliant.

The pups at Dogs4Rescue shelter in Manchester got very confused when their tasty treats disappeared back down the holes.

Some determined doggos succeeded in catching the sausages, and other frustrated pups gave up before they’d even tried.

Emma Billington at Dogs4Rescue explained in the caption of the video: “Rescue dogs playing sausage table. One of their favourite enrichment time games.

“The bullies love it… and then there’s Stuart who is nobody’s fool. Although he couldn’t resist a Richmond meat free sausage in the end.”

The video was posted on Facebook yesterday and has already been viewed more than 23,000 times.

During the 90-second clip, nine dogs take it in turns giving the whack-a-mole style game a go.

Beneath the board, a member of the Dogs4Rescue team has a go at pushing sausages up and down the holes.

Footage shows the dogs’ confused and frustrated reactions when their mouths miss the sausage, and their smug faces when they finally chomp on the tasty treat.

Many clever canines paused and thought tactically about their next steps, while others jumped on top of the board and sniffed until they hit the sweet spot.

Viewers enjoyed watching the video as much as the lucky dogs enjoyed playing it.

“What a brilliant game! I laughed so hard my eyes leaked,” one person said.

“Love this! And how their personalities all shine through!” a second commented.

“This was so funny to watch, the pure concentration on their faces. Priceless. And so lovely you have all these wonderful videos of them all,” a third said.
