Pupils at Lanarkshire primary host special event to celebrate school's refurbishment

Local councillors joined pupils, parents and staff at Allanton Primary for a special event to celebrate the refurbishment of the school building.

The school and nursery were forced to close in October 2021 to allow essential structural repairs to take place.

This included external works on the building to address structural issues and IT upgrades as well as improvements to the general look and feel of the building.

Pupils were decanted to Dykehead Primary in Shotts while children at the nursery were relocated to Newmains Primary.

After a few weeks back in their refurbished school, the children were able to put on a great display with music and readings in front of parents and dignitaries.

Head teacher of Allanton Primary and Nursery, Sheena McFaite, said: “We’ve had so many positive comments from local people saying how great the school is looking and it was wonderful seeing the reaction of parents and pupils.

“In many ways it feels like we’ve moved into a brand-new school building, albeit one which retains its great character.

“In four years the building will celebrate its centenary year and we can all look forward to such a positive future as a focal point for the community here in Allanton.”
