Gio van Bronckhorst doesn't fear the sack as Rangers boss but having Duncan Ferguson hovering over his shoulder would give anyone the willies. That's what one punter wants, though.
The Dutchman is a man under pressure and one Hotline caller has called for Bannockburn's favourite son to replace him in the Ibrox hotseat. Stephen Johnstone, Ardentinny , emailed: "Van Bronckhorst gets a stay of execution despite a poor performance against Motherwell as Rangers scraped a win but they will need to be on the ball against Dundee United in the Scottish cup midweek and going by recent results one can see United winning. Rangers will soon be looking for a new manager and there's only one man fit to manage us and it's Duncan Ferguson. It's time to come home and restore the glory days Big Dunc."
John Scott, Grassmoor, said: "For a Rangers fan, Hotline regular Andrew Lamb has an unnatural interest in Hibs. However, in fairness he's probably correct about Ryan Porteous having no chance getting signed up by Celtic. Mainly given Celtic won't get near Ryan as Rangers will have Easter Road surrounded ready to snap him up on a pre-contract come January."
Andrew Lamb, Fraserburgh, said: "Despite the bluster from Ange Postecoglou, would it be a bad thing if Scottish clubs didn't make it to the Champions League,? Let's be honest, we have neither the funding model nor the skill required to do anything other then make up the numbers."
C. Strachan said: "Everyone needs to take a reality check. The Champions League will never be won again by a team outside of England, Spain, Germany, Italy, maybe France the rest are also-rans. Money has killed the game. Pundits, commentators, journalists and fans have to stop kicking the Old Firm when they are down. Realistically the achievement is getting into the group section and maybe qualify from a group."
George Wilson, West Sussex, emailed: "Rangers have been appalling in the Champions League with one goal and no points so far. Celtic have one goal, one own-goal and one point but according to their supporters and manager they have been brilliant. So apparently Celtic are brilliant but Rangers are awful and in crisis even though the facts show they are both more or less out of Europe and only two points between them in the league with two games at Ibrox to come. There’s virtually nothing between them."
Eddie Easson, Ballingry, said: "Normal service is the order of the day after a weekend where Celtic were back to scoring for fun and Rangers benefitting from dodgy refereeing decisions. VAR can't come quick enough there will no doubt be power cuts in Rangers games."
Robert McEwan, Mount Vernon , said: "It's strange how people's take on calling a player a veteran which is the case with James Forrest who is still only 31. There are loads of guys playing in our league well over that age."
Barriemore Barlow, Dunbartonshire, said: "I think Ryan Kent has the spectre of that horror miss in Seville gnawing away at him and therefore is scared to try anything flamboyant. He plays it safe and this won't change, I'm sure he wants to leave but nobody wants him and certainly Rangers won't get even half their money back, it's a lose-lose situation."
Alan Flett emailed: "Chris Sutton thinks Rangers lack ambition but for the best part of a decade, Celtic had the field all to themselves, while Rangers languished in the wilderness. But rather than use that period to establish themselves as a credible European force, they were simply content to be the top dogs in Scotland. What Rangers have achieved in the last 10 years is nothing short of remarkable, while Celtic have stumbled from one embarrassment to the next."
Jim Mackenzie, East Kilbride, emailed: "I think Hotline caller Robert Livingston from Palm Beach has got sunstroke from the Florida sun. Steven Gerrard and Michael Beale couldn't get out of Glasgow fast enough and will not be back at our club. As for Brendan Rodgers, he is leading his current club towards relegation and as a former Celtic manager will never manage Rangers. Stay out of the sun Robert."
