CHANDIGARH: Three people running a charitable trust in Punjab allegedly duped a furniture businessman of Rs 22.65 lakh, leading the police to register a case of fraud.
Capt Viraat of Ultimate Marketers Traders, Industrial Area, Phase I, alleged Anil Monga (chairman and principal trustee), Rajesh Narula (trustee), and Chaudhary (general manager) of Dream and Beauty Charitable Trust, Doraha, Khanna, Punjab, contacted him for buying furniture of Rs 33.40 lakh on February 3.
They allegedly paid an advance of Rs 11.30 lakh. The rest of the payment was to be made after delivery. Viraat claimed the order was delivered to the address given to him but when the balance payment of Rs 22.10 lakh and Rs 55,460 transportation cost was demanded, the accused stopped responding to his calls.
He alleged the accused once picked up his call but threatened him of dire consequences. A case under sections 420 (cheating) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC was registered at the Industrial Area police station.
