Punjab: SGPC to restore use of string instruments in Golden Temple

AMRITSAR: With the directions of Jathedar of Akal Takht, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) will phase out the use of harmonium during the recital of kirtan at the sanctum sanctorum of Golden Temple and revive the traditional practice of use of string instruments.

SGPC's assistant secretary( media ) Kulwinder Singh informed on Wednesday five Sikh high priests, during a meeting held by Jathedar of Akal Takht Giani Harpreet Singh on May 3, had passed a resolution in which he had directed to revive the Gurbani kirtan singing at the sanctum sanctorum of Golden Temple with string instrument and had given a deadline of three years .
