PATIALA: A virtual rally of PM Narendra Modi, which was to be held at Salana village on Tuesday, was cancelled after the villagers opposed the event.
A BJP leader had to take away the van along with the screen and other belongings. However, the rally took place at the two other scheduled places Mandi Gobindgarh and Amloh in the Amloh assembly segment.
BJP leader Joginder Singh Naraingarh, who was incharge of the virtual rally at Salana, said, “We had taken NOC from the department concerned for the place where rally was supposed to be organised and all the preparations were done, but some villagers opposed the event and claimed that the land belonged to them and would not allow the virtual rally. We did not land in any confrontation as we don’t want to disturb peace. The people who opposed had affiliation with the Congress and AAP as well.”
Amloh BJP candidate Kanwarveer Singh Tohra claimed at two other places, the rally was successful, but at Salana the rivals had targeted it.
