Punjab: Ludhiana court sentences three including two cops to life imprisonment in Jamalpur encounter case

LUDHIANA: A local court in Ludhiana on Monday sentenced three persons including two cops to life imprisonment in the Jamalpur encounter case.

On 27 September 2014 at about 8AM two real brothers Harinder Singh Lally and Jatinder Singh Goldy were murdered at a house in Ahaluwalia Colony, Main Street, Jamalpur, Ludhiana and in this regard a case under 302 (murder), 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) and arms act sections was registered at Police Station, Jamalpur.

Later on Section 34 was deleted and Sections (rioting, armed with deadly weapon) and 149 (unlawful assembly), 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of IPC and sections of SC/ST Act 1989 were added during the investigation. In this case, the accused Gurjit Singh Sam, Constable Yadwinder Singh, PHG (Punjab Home Guards) Ajit Singh, PHG Baldev Singh were arrested and accused dismissed Inspector Manjinder Singh and his reader Sukhbir Singh were declared proclaimed offenders (PO) by the Court.

The court of additional sessions judge sentenced the trio under section 120 B of IPC (Criminal conspiracy) and 302 (murder) read with 120 B of IPC and Yadwinder and Gurjit Singh under Arms act. The court also imposed a fine of Rs.37000 each on two accused and Rs.35000 on one of them.

The court ordered that of the fine amount, Rs.1 Lakh be given to the victim family.
