BATHINDA: Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar has accused the Aam Aadmi Party government in the state of not seriously taking the inputs about floods and assistance sent by central government to mitigate the sufferings of the affected persons.
While paying a visit to flood affected areas in district Ferozepur on Friday, Jakhar lambasted Bhagwant Mann government for an abjectly dismal and callous response to grievous flood situation despite timely alerts and said state government is indulging in Public Relations drama and histrionics while people across state fighting for survival after losing their homes and belongings.
He said people need immediate relief and not photo stunts by AAP leaders who are fond of remaining active online and asked state government to not wait for Girdawari and provide immediate interim relief to all those who have suffered losses.
Jakhar also urged chief minister for ensuring crop damage compensation to farmers in border areas who do not possess girdawari documents.
Jakhar assured the aggrieved persons that he would take their fight for effective and timely compensation with the state government which he said had been caught napping from the word go.
People of Punjab are asking the chief minister as to why he did not review the flood preparedness when there were enough alerts issued by the Meterological Department as early as July 4. Orange alert was issued on July 6, Jakhar pointed out, but chief minister kept sleeping over it and was busy touring other states, Jakhar further said adding had the CM timely reviewed the situation and ordered measures the situation would not have turned so distressing today.
In Jalandhar, the situation has deteriorated because the drains were not cleaned this year and demanded accountability from government for failing to undertake an annual measure which must have ensured before rainy season began.
Jakhar said central government has timely released Rs. 218.40 crore by exempting required conditions just to ensure prompt redressal of problems being faced by Punjabis.
