CHANDIGARH: The Punjab government has pulled the plug on unnecessary referral of patients from government-run facilities in districts to health care facilities in Chandigarh.
In recent months there has been an increase in the referral of patients from hospitals in the state to the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) and Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), through 108 emergency ambulance service. It has been noticed that many patients are not admitted to these two hospitals and are sent back, resulting in an unnecessary journey for patients and creating a void at the base location of the ambulance for 10-12 hours.
