PUNE: A truck knocked down and ran over a 15-year-old girl near Nigdi Gaothan around 11.30am on Sunday.
The police said the victim, Tanvi Vinod Gavhane of Bhosari, was walking along the road with her aunt, Jayashree Tukaram Kalbhor (49), and sister when the accident occurred. They had to stop at a junction owing to heavy traffic. Soon after, the truck, which was going towards the Bhakti-Shakti Chowk from Nigdi Gaothan, knocked Tanvi down and ran over her.
Assistant inspector S Dhumal of the Nigdi police said, “The girl was standing on the divider with her aunt and sister to cross the road. Her aunt told us that the truck first hit Tanvi, following which she fell under the front and rear wheels of the vehicle. We have collected CCTV footage of the area and found a sequence similar to the incident.”
Dhumal added that they had arrested the truck driver and produced him before the court. He was granted bail by the court.
The girl had come to her aunt’s place during her summer vacation, the police officer said.
