Pune: Thieves set ablaze ATM, Rs 3.9 lakh gutted

PUNE: Cash worth Rs3.99 lakh went up in flames as unidentified thieves set ablaze an unmanned ATM kiosk of a leading private bank in Kudalwadi in a bid to open the cash dispenser with a gas cutter on Sunday.

The ATM kiosk where the incident occurred is located about 30km from here near Indrayani weighbridge on the Chikhali Road. The entire kiosk, including CCTV cameras, a digital video recorder (DVR) and air-conditioners, was completely damaged in the fire, said an officer from the Pimpri Chinchwad police. He added that investigators were working on certain clues to identify and arrest the culprits.

Sub-inspector Vivek Kumatkar of the Chikhali police said, "There is no security guard deployed at the kiosk. Unknown men entered the kiosk around 2.30am on Sunday. They blackened the CCTV cameras inside the kiosk with some spray before trying to execute the crime."

The machine caught fire when they tried to cut the safe using a gas cutter.

"The ATM, two air-conditioners, two CCTV cameras and the ceiling and side walls of the kiosk were damaged in the fire," said Kumatkar.

The officer said the entire cash, worth Rs3.99 lakh, present inside the machine was burnt in the fire.
