PUNE: A 32-year-old carpenter from Wadgaonsheri has lodged a complaint with the Airport police stating that two men robbed him of Rs5,000, gold earrings and cellphone, besides forcing him to transfer Rs42,800 via a UPI application at an isolated spot near Forest Park, off Pune-Ahmednagar road, on March 2 after issuing threats of dire consequences to him.
The complainant stated in the FIR that the duo contacted him over phone and called him for a meeting near the Forest Park for discussing some furniture work. However, when he met them, the duo forcibly took him to an isolated spot and robbed him of cash and valuables. They also forced him to make a money transfer using a UPI application. While leaving, they took his mobile phone, he stated.
Sub-inspector S A Jadhav of the Airport police told TOI, “The carpenter lodged a complaint with the police after securing a statement of his bank account. He searched for the two robbers but failed to locate them.” Jadhav said, “The duo reached the spot on their two-wheeler. But when the carpenter met them, they were on foot. They issued threats of dire consequences to him and robbed him.”
“We suspect that the two robbers might have got the phone number of the carpenter and hatched a plan to rob him,” Jadhav said.
Jadhav said, “We have established the identities of the duo using the technical details of the UPI application and the bank account to which the money was transferred.”
