PUNE: The Nigdi police on Wednesday arrested a 32-year-old man on the charge of outraging the modesty of his nine-year-old niece.
The police said the man’s mother had filed a complaint against him and claimed that he (her younger son) had attempted to molest her as well.
Sub-inspector Dattatreya More of the Nigdi police told TOI that the minor girl stayed with her grandmother. Her father is in jail on charge of his wife’s murder. “The complainant claimed that on April 21, her younger son had outraged the modesty of her granddaughter,” said More.
He said the complainant claimed that on Tuesday night, her son had abused and attempted to molest her too. “She came to the police station on Wednesday and filed a complaint against her son,” added More.
The officer said the man had been arrested under sections 354-A (sexual harassment), 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of the IPC and relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
