PUNE: While children in the 12-14 age group are set to receive Corbevax from Wednesday, those in the 14-15 bracket (younger than 15 but older than 14) will be eligible to get Covaxin, just like those in the 15-18 group, the health ministry clarified on Tuesday.
There was some confusion over vaccination in this specific 14-15 age bracket after health minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Monday announced Corbevax drives for kids in the 12-13 and 13-14 age groups. The health ministry issued a clarification the next day saying Covaxin will be given to the 14-15 group.
"We have informed all states and Union territories to inoculate children in the 14-15 age bracket with Covaxin. The children will be eligible to get the Covaxin shot from the designated Covid vaccination centres from March 16," a Union health ministry official said.
Confirming this, Dr Sanjay Deshmukh, assistant director, health services for Pune region, said the health ministry official conveyed to them during an online meeting that Covaxin drives can start for the 14-15 age group from Wednesday. "So far, we have been vaccinating only those in the 15-18 age group with Covaxin. Now, the Covaxin-eligible children's category has been expanded to the 14-18 age bracket," Dr Deshmukh said.
