Pune: Alert citizens catch thief fleeing with girl’s phone

PUNE: Alert passersby on the Kondhwa-Bibvewadi road nabbed a man moments after he snatched the phone of a 19-year-old college student around 7.15pm on Monday.

“Rutuja Sable, a second-year student, had just got her SIM card recharged and was on her way home. The suspect, identified as Madanlal Sutar (45) from Bharati Vidyapeeth, followed her, caught hold of her neck, snatched her phone and took to his heels,” said senior inspector Anagha Deshpande from the Market Yard police on Tuesday.

Sub inspector Priya Rajguru, who is investigating the case, said, “Sutar is a carpenter. We are questioning him to find out the motive behind committing the robbery.”
