Pundits disagree as surprise Man City prediction for Brentford Premier League fixture given

Manchester City will end their Premier League title-winning season with a trip to Brentford this afternoon.

It has been another brilliant campaign for Pep Guardiola's side who have sealed their fifth top flight crown in six seasons. But it was not an easy task by any stretch of the imagination. City had to overhaul an Arsenal team which defied all expectations under Mikel Arteta, with many tipping them to struggle to get into the top four prior to the start of the campaign, never mind mount a title charge.

But City reeled in the Gunners and remain in the hunt for the treble after sealing the first third of it. Guardiola's side have finals against cross-city rivals Manchester United in the FA Cup and Inter Milan in the Champions League still to come.

The champions end their top flight campaign on the road against the Bees, who have had a fantastic season. Thomas Frank's men will finish in the top half of the table and could end as high as seventh should they win and results elsewhere go their way. Here's what the pundits have had to say prior to the encounter in the capital.

Chris Sutton - BBC Sport

"Brentford have had an absolutely brilliant season once again and they could complete the double over Manchester City after beating them at Etihad Stadium in November.

"It's never easy to make another step forward in your second season in the top flight but that's what the Bees have done. This is going to be a tricky afternoon for the champions - Brighton gave them a good game in midweek and I am expecting Brentford to do the same.

"We know how desperate City boss Pep Guardiola is to win every game because he showed it against the Seagulls, but I just wonder if some of his players will have one eye on next week's FA Cup final, and be thinking about the Champions League final too. I am still going with a City win, but it is going to be close."

Sutton's prediction: Brentford 1-2 Manchester City

Mark Lawrenson - PaddyPower

"This is tricky for Manchester City because they’ve got the cup finals coming up. It’s a case of what does the manager do? "Often when you get to a final and there’s as game in-between you leave players out and you lose your touch a little bit. I think Pep Guardiola will play a weakened side in this. Brentford have done brilliantly but I’ll go with City to win."

Lawrenson's prediction: Brentford 0-2 Manchester City

Paul Merson - Sportskeeda

"Manchester City can rest every player and still get a good team out - we saw it against Brighton. Erling Haaland not scoring against the Seagulls means he might find it hard to get to 60 goals in all competitions this season, but that will be the last thing on his or Pep Guardiola's mind as the Cityzens chase an unprecedented treble.

"The Premier League champions play only one way and if we're being completely honest, you could say the same for Brentford as they always look to be on the front foot regardless of the opposition. I'm going for a 2-2 draw here as Man City could once again play a much-changed squad, with one eye on the two cup finals they have on the horizon."

Merson's prediction: Brentford 2-2 Manchester City
