The Food and Drug Administration has assigned its most serious risk classification to the recall of GreenWise organic frozen blueberries and mixed berries sold at Publix, a designation the agency reserves for products where exposure could reasonably cause serious health consequences or death. The Class I classification was posted on August 18 in the agency's enforcement reports, about three weeks after Publix expanded the recall to cover all lots.
Twelve people infected with the outbreak strain have been reported in two states, Florida and Georgia, according to the CDC outbreak page. Four have been hospitalized. No deaths have been linked to the outbreak.
