A charming pub near Bristol has been selected as one of the best in the South Wes - and could be in with a chance at winning a national title.
Along with the city's The Ostrich pub, The Old Kings Head in Worle has been selected as Somerset's representative in the National Pub & Bar Awards. The venue less than an hour's drive away from Bristol is famed for its roast dinners with an extensive array of local ciders.
With a spacious beer garden, live music and sports, the pub has been in the family for more than thirty years. The Old Kings Head prides itself on providing real Somerset character in a traditional village setting, reports Somerset Live. They also offer regular charity quiz nights, video horse racing evenings, bingo nights and performances from Somerset’s finest Chalice Morris Men.

The Old Kings Head shared their delight on Facebook, saying: "We were totally shocked to be told that we had been named county winners for Somerset. We are overcome with pride and this is a reflection of the hard work put in from our dedicated team of staff. Thank you to both our staff and our loyal family of customers that makes the pub what it is".
The national awards aim to "put exemplary on-trade businesses across the UK in the national spotlight, showcasing the hospitality industry’s diversity, creativity and vital importance to the UK economy", with 94 pubs selected as winners for their county. Those lucky to have been selected will be officially crowned at a red carpet celebration in London on June 22.

In the grand final, 15 regional winners will also be announced, as well as the esteemed accolade – the overall National Pub & Bar of the Year, which last year was won by Galvin Green Man in Chelmsford.
Tristan O’Hana, editor of Pub & Bar magazine, said: "Just from being out in these venues, you can see how much pubs and bars mean to people across the UK. With visitor numbers increasing, it’s more important than ever for operators to deliver a standout service during every visit – no matter the business in question. These 94 county winners are wonderful examples of the brilliance of today’s modern trade. If you live near one of these sites, make sure you pay them a visit.”
