Pub sells nation's most expensive beer for a staggering £47 a bottle

A trendy craft ale, dubbed the nation's "most expensive beer," has gone on sale - and it costs almost £50 per bottle.

Bruery's Mash and Coconut, is brewed in California, and is described as a "classic bourbon barrel-aged imperial brown ale," but it's not cheap.

A 750ml bottle is priced at almost £47, and it's currently on sale at The Craft Beer Co in Brixton, south London, and several ale fans have been snapping up the brew despite the staggering price, reports the Mirror.

Speaking to The Sun, a beer industry expert, said she was not surprised at the cost. Lidia Kiszewska, an expert in the beer industry, told the publication: "This price range is fairly unusual to see, however, it's not the first time I've seen this. That's quite a high price bracket, but personally I'm not surprised."

There are fears that beer prices could soon rise by around 10 per cent a pint in pubs across the UK.

The hike will add an average of 40-50p to the price of a pint, although some London pubs have already increased costs to above £6.

The British Beer and Pub Association places the average of a pint in the UK at £4.07 while Londoners pay on average £4.84, although it is much more expensive in many venues..

Rising costs have been blamed for the soaring price of a pint. Kate Nicholls, chief executive of trade organisation UK Hospitality, said: “This is weighing very heavily on these businesses, which have had nothing but a torrid time, and the price of a pint and a meal out will have to rise.”
