A popular country pub has issued a savage public statement after a customer "threatened them" and left a negative review.
The Plough and Harrow, near Cowbridge, made a statement in response to a customer's Facebook posts about their roast dinner.
The customer criticised the beef and then complained about not getting a refund, WalesOnline reports.
The pub's stinging response described how a customer was "particularly rude to a member of staff".
The pub wrote: "A party of diners came in today, and one lady, in particular, was particularly rude to a member of staff, so much so that this staff member had to go on an early break to compose herself.
"When they were given the bill she demanded money off otherwise she would leave negative comments on all local hubs and social media platforms, I told her I was not a party to being blackmailed by anyone, and to go ahead and post whatever she wanted which she has.
"I am very saddened that someone like this can come into our establishment and try and sabotage our family business."
The owner of the 14th-century pub has voiced concern about the culture of reviews on Facebook and sites like TripAdvisor.
She said: "I think everyone in hospitality is against it. It gives free access to sabotage businesses."
The Plough and Harrow has an average rating of 4.6 stars after 501 Google reviews.
It ranked second in last year's list of the best pub walks in the UK.
Its owner said the unhappy customer was in a group of four who visited on Sunday and ordered four roasts, a cheeseboard and three apple crumbles as well as drinks.
In the Facebook posts, the customer claimed she had seen other diners send their meals back that day, but the pub said this was "categorically untrue".
The chef of the pub said: "The meal was completely finished. There was nothing left on the plate. We had 150 diners yesterday, plus some walk-ins, so it could have easily been 200, and she was the only one not happy. Easily 80 per cent of people left tips. It's just not on."
The owner added: "I think it's really sad that someone would come into my establishment, have a meal, finish it, demand money off it and say, 'What are you going to do about it love?' The chef is horrified. We're a small family-run business hit really hard by Covid.
"A lot of establishments haven't reopened after Covid. This has happened just as we're starting to get busy again. We have a fantastic chef, lovely staff, we source our produce locally, we have a low carbon footprint and we work really hard."
The customer's Facebook posts described the pub's vegetables and potatoes as "lovely" but criticised the beef and the customer service, and complained that her group had to pay the full £111.75 for their meals.
She added: "BECAUSE WE HAD THE NERVE TO COMPLAIN WE ARE NOW BANNED, SHE HAD NO NEED TO BAN US AS WE WOULD NOT BE GOING BACK ANYWAY... STAY CLEAR....will be posting this on all hubs."
