PSV in Celtic red carpet treatment ahead of Rangers test with ex-Hoops ace as tour guide

PSV were handed the red carpet treatment from Celtic as they spent a day out at the home of the Scottish champions ahead of their Champions League clash with Rangers.

The Dutch giants - who have arrived in Glasgow ahead of the play-off first leg tie - were driven by coach from Glasgow Airport to an organised visit of Parkhead. Top brass, key sponsors and corporate guests were treated to a special tour guide in the shape of Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink, report the Scottish Daily Express.

They claim that PSV chiefs were granted access around Celtic Park to have a scan around while the while their former striker - signed by Celtic in 2006 - delivered a history lesson in the Hoops and their successes over the years.

One corporate guest told the Express:"I don't know if Rangers will like that we have gone to visit Celtic. It was a good trip and we learned a lot from Jan, who seems to know everything about Celtic.

"We had a very good meal there too and we were well looked after."

Vennegoor of Hesselink turned out for Hull City and Rapid Wien after leaving Celtic before returning to PSV to end his career for the 2011/12 season. Signed by Gordon Strachan, he quickly established himself as a fans' favourite amongst the Parkhead loyal, with his unforgettable goal in the 2007/08 season against Rangers still a stand out memory for many of the Hoops support.

That injury-time header narrowed the gap between the Old Firm rivals at the top just to one point with Shunsuke Nakamura also on target in a 2-1 win back in April 2008. He enjoyed a healthy scoring return during his time in Glasgow including Champions League strikes against European giants Barcelona and Manchester United.

He was also capped 19 times by the Netherlands, hitting three goals on the international stage. Rangers and PSV will battle it out once again in eight days' time following tonight's first leg with the big prize on offer a spot in the Champions League group stages and the huge financial windfall that comes with qualifying.

It will also provide the chance for the teams to test themselves against the best players and clubs across Europe.
